VK Chronicle Month in Review: June 2026

June proved to be Visual Kei's most electrifying month in years—a perfect storm of legacy revivals, international expansion, festival dominance, and bittersweet farewells that left the scene buzzing with possibility and nostalgia in equal measure.

Tours & Live Events

The month's live landscape was dominated by massive announcements and record-breaking festivals. BugLug's Bagsami 2026 Festival shattered Visual Kei records with an astounding 94 bands, cementing the event as the scene's most ambitious undertaking. Meanwhile, muque announced their 2026 tour with a vibrant new MV, and umbrella revealed an ambitious nationwide tour capped by a historic Osaka BIG CAT show. On the international front, the B7KLAN J-ROCK FEST brings Japan's VK elite to Paris this July, featuring DIR EN GREY, the GazettE, and Versailles. Domestically, HERO and BabyKingdom led the "Rengeki" event lineups, while emerging festival culture flourished with Rock Heat Wave 2026, a new Nagoya festival uniting the VK scene.

New Releases & Music Videos

The month unleashed a torrent of fresh material. lynch. unveiled "ICE" MV ahead of their CLIMAX album release, while GOTCHAROCKA revealed new artist photos and announced a summer single. COPES signed to No Big Deal Records with their new mini album WAO!! coming September, and DEZERT kicked off their 15th anniversary with a new album and nationwide tour. Nostalgia ran deep as Kuroyume released two self-cover albums this summer and Plastic Tree released 17 full-length MVs from their Victor era.

Archival Releases & Streaming Expansion

June celebrated Visual Kei's digital future and preserves its past. X JAPAN revived classic MVs and a rare CLAMP anime collaboration, while -OZ-'s classic best album finally hit streaming and 変革works unleashed their full catalog on streaming platforms. A Visual Kei DJ event launched on Twitch with DIR EN GREY and BugLug, signaling the scene's embrace of new platforms.
