This Week in Visual Kei: Reunions, Debuts & Festival Buzz — June 15, 2026

What a week to be a Visual Kei fan. From surprise reunions to major festival announcements, the scene just keeps reminding us why it refuses to stay dormant—even three decades in.

Let’s start with the reunion energy, because it’s everywhere. D≒SIRE made headlines by confirming they’re genuinely sticking around after their 30-year comeback, and READY TO KISS is heading back to the legendary Ikebukuro WHITE BASE for nostalgic reunion shows. These aren’t one-off moments—they’re statements of intent. Meanwhile, PENICILLIN got creative for summer, reviving their classic “Romance” as a special Tanzaku CD tie-in for Tanabata 2026. It’s the kind of fan-focused move that reminds you why loyalty runs deep in this community.

On the fresh releases front, things are heating up nicely. Henkaku WORKS dropped their anticipated second single, bringing their theatrical rock opera vision to the table once again. LEX came through with “ELDEN RING,” a new single paired with arena show announcements—solid momentum for a band building real buzz. And in a left-field development, Akari Shirase launched her music career with the “Flavor” EP, proving that the ecosystem keeps expanding beyond traditional band structures.

The live scene is absolutely thriving. Verde/ is hosting monthly NEO TOKYO TRIBE shows featuring rotating guest vocalists, which is basically a masterclass in keeping things fresh and unpredictable. But the real game-changer is Rock Heat Wave 2026, a brand-new Nagoya festival that’s uniting the entire VK scene—this could become essential infrastructure for how bands interact and fans gather. KIRITO just wrapped their “THE SHIFT COMPLETE” tour with an emotional final show, closing a significant chapter.

And because Visual Kei can’t help being weird and wonderful, we got MUCC’s Tatsuro getting competitive on the Hiragajan special broadcast, competing alongside NoGoD and L’Arc-en-Ciel. Only in VK does this make sense.

This was the kind of week that reminds you the scene isn’t nostalgia-dependent—it’s actively building the future while honoring the past. Watch for how Rock Heat Wave 2026 shapes the rest of summer’s festival calendar.
