This Week in Visual Kei: Legacy & Renewal — May 11, 2026
What a week for the VK calendar. We’ve had legends cementing their legacies, fresh faces making bold moves, and a few heartfelt goodbyes that remind us why we love this scene so much.
The anniversary energy was strong this week. LUNA SEA dropped the final live Blu-ray/DVD from their 35th anniversary tour—a milestone that feels genuinely historic. Meanwhile, MUCC marked 29 years with a major H2 2026 live schedule, D∈∋SIRE locked in a 30th anniversary 2-day live for May 2026, and KISAKI celebrated his 50th birthday with an album and his final Masquerade Tour. Even THE BEETHOVEN got in on it, unveiling the “Angel” single ahead of their 13th anniversary tour. When legends move, everyone watches.
New music came through steady and strong. Unlucky Morpheus returned with “Gate of Hell,” Rose’n’Ciel announced their 3rd album for November, and Matenrou Opera’s “Cinematographe” drops June 17. Kuroyume went full reimagining mode with CORKSCREW 2026 and Drug TReatment 2026 reissues, proving that the ’90s foundations still hit hard. LIZA made noise with their shocking “GRIMY CHOCOLATE” MV debut at a festival, and OddRe: released “Nemuru Kimi” while announcing their first headline tour—fresh energy from rising acts.
The live circuit exploded. Verde/ unveiled a new look and launched a Tokyo monthly live tour; Sakura Zensen sold out Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall; Doubt × RAZOR × SCREW are teaming up for a July 2026 festival; and FEST. INAZUMA 2026’s lineup revealed abingdon boys school and T.M.Revolution among others. Even smaller acts like ZOMBIE and PLASTIC are booking solid dates. This is peak season energy.
But it wasn’t all celebration. GREN disbanded after six years with a final show September 30, and THE MICRO HEAD 4N’S announced their farewell live at Shibuya O-EAST. xTRiPx saw vocalist Yo-shiT depart. These losses sting, but they’re part of the VK cycle—bands evolve, change, sometimes end. That’s the emotional weight that makes this community real.
On the lighter side, Hiro, DAISHI, and SATOち (ex-ν[NEU], Psycho le Cému, ex-MUCC) launched beauty and health events for fans, because VK culture isn’t just music—it’s a whole lifestyle.
Next week: keep your eyes on those festival lineups and tour announcements—summer booking season is here, and the announcements keep coming.
