lynch.

lynch.’s defining strength lies in their unwavering commitment to synthesizing crushing metal heaviness with soaring melodic beauty—a balance that shouldn’t work but becomes transcendent in their hands. Formed in Nagoya in August 2004, the band officially debuted at Club Quattro in December that year with vocalist Hazuki, guitarist Reo, drummer Asanao, and bassist support from Yukino. This Nagoya collective quickly established themselves as architects of “loud kei,” a subgenre that refuses to choose between brutality and elegance.

The band’s early releases—greedy dead souls and the paired albums THE AVOIDED SUN and THE BURIED (both 2007)—introduced their sonic template: distortion-heavy riffs that somehow cradle Hazuki’s emotionally raw vocals. By 2009’s SHADOWS, lynch. had tightened their formula, with the addition of second guitarist Yusuke (ex-HYBRID-ZOMBIEZ) in 2005 adding textural depth to their arrangements. The 2011 album I BELIEVE IN ME marked a turning point where their melodic sensibilities became equally dominant to their metal foundations, while INFERIORITY COMPLEX (2012) and GALLOWS (2014) saw them confidently straddling both worlds without compromise.

The mid-2010s proved their most adventurous period. D.A.R.K. -In the name of evil- (2015) and AVANTGARDE (2016) pushed their songwriting into more experimental territories, with SINNERS -no one can fake my bløod- (2018) delivering some of their most cohesive and devastating material. Rather than softening with age, lynch. doubled down on their distinctive identity.

Within the Japanese metal and visual kei landscapes, lynch. occupy a crucial position as proof that heavy music and visual presentation aren’t at odds with genuine melodic sophistication. They’ve avoided the predictability trap that catches many bands in this space, instead building a catalog that rewards deep listening. Their influence extends beyond their fanbase into broader discussions of how visual kei can sustain intensity without sacrificing musicianship.

Now two decades into their career, lynch. remain active and relevant. Recent releases like ULTIMA (2020) and REBORN (2023)—alongside ambitious reissue campaigns—demonstrate a band still hungry to refine their craft. They matter because they’ve proven that the “unite heavy and beautiful” concept isn’t marketing copy; it’s a legitimate artistic vision executed with uncompromising conviction.
