JilukaActive
Jiluka wields electronics like weapons. Where most visual kei metal bands treat synths as atmospheric garnish, this Tokyo outfit weaponizes them—layering distorted guitars, aggressive drums, and digital textures into what they’ve branded as Electro Gothic Metal, a sound that feels simultaneously futuristic and darkly theatrical. That hybrid identity is the beating heart of everything Jiluka does, and it’s made them one of the most forward-thinking acts in the modern VK metal landscape.
The band emerged from a session project called J.L.K in May 2013, initially featuring vocalist Ricko (formerly performing as Kanata), guitarist and rapper Sena, bassist Boogie, and drummer JaiL. Their debut single “Sicks” arrived swiftly, but the group hit an unexpected snag when JaiL departed that October, forcing a strategic pause. When Jiluka reconvened in February 2015 with drummer Zyean (ex-XALTEA) solidifying the lineup, they returned with something sharper: a refined sonic philosophy that would define the next decade of releases.
Their discography tells a story of calculated evolution. The 2015 albums Brave Agonistic Letters Under Segregation and DESTRIEB established their metalcore foundation, but by Xenomorphic (2017) and Metamorphose (2018), the electronic elements had become inseparable from their identity. XANADU (2019) pushed further into experimental territory, while Xtopia (2020) and IDOLA (2021) demonstrated that Jiluka could balance accessibility with uncompromising heaviness. Their 2025 release XNDII continues this trajectory, proving the band refuses to calcify into nostalgia.
Operating independently under their own label, Faizh Music, Jiluka embodies a DIY ethos increasingly rare among established VK acts. This autonomy has allowed them to chart their own course without compromise, releasing eight albums and twelve singles while maintaining complete creative control. Within the visual kei sphere, they’ve become essential listening for fans seeking metal with genuine innovation—artists who reject both the theatrical pastiche of legacy VK and the genre-worship of standard metalcore.
After more than a decade of activity, Jiluka remain vital precisely because they keep pushing. They’ve proven that visual kei metal doesn’t require nostalgia or scene politics to matter; it requires the courage to evolve. For Western fans discovering them now, Jiluka represents the future of the genre—darker, heavier, more electronic, and absolutely unafraid.
