鬼堕くん。 on Raw Emotion, Studio Life, and Unfiltered Sound

A mysterious figure emerged from the digital underground earlier this year, and the Japanese music sphere hasn’t been the same since. 鬼堕くん。—pronounced “Onida Kun” (not “Kida,” as the artist is quick to clarify)—operates in the shadowy margins of experimental Visual Kei, churning out demo CDs weekly while designing merchandise on impulse. In a recent interview, this enigmatic project opened up about the philosophy behind their uncompromising approach to sound.

鬼堕くん。 artist portrait

When asked directly, “who are you?” the response was deliberately opaque: “I only remember the last few years, so I don’t really know myself. Just a regular human. Just one.” This cryptic persona extends into their artistic output. 鬼堕くん。 builds songs on the axis of life, death, darkness, and illness—channeling raw human emotion that most of us suppress. The artist describes their process as cyclical: “spit it out, spit it out again, repeat.” There’s no filter, no polish, no apology.

The philosophy is radical in its honesty. When discussing their songwriting process, 鬼堕くん。 emphasizes the importance of leaving imperfection intact. “If you try to make it pretty, your real emotions die,” they explain. Noise, distortion, cracked vocals—all stay in. The measure of success isn’t technical precision; it’s how completely destroyed the delivery feels. This mirrors a broader Visual Kei ethos of emotional exposure, but stripped of any remaining theatrical veneer.

鬼堕くん。 merchandise and visual

By day, 鬼堕くん。 exists in a corporate job—half-conscious, perpetually exhausted. By night (and during every spare moment), they exist entirely within sound. A recent near-death experience became song material instead of tragedy. When asked whether they want to live or die, the answer was refreshingly honest: both, neither, depending on the day. “I’m probably just moody.”

The artist has performances scheduled across Kyushu in August as part of the “Kyushu Aesthetic Festival ~Final~” in Fukuoka (August 8) and Kumamoto (August 9), followed by a year-end double header in Tokyo on December 28 at Higashi-Takanosawa 20,000V.
