Damian Hamada’s Creatures just delivered a night that proved heavy metal democracy works. On August 15th, the band—fronted by the legendary Damian Hamada, founder of the now-legendary Seikima II—took the stage at Tokyo’s Veats Shibuya for “THE WORST 10,” a one-man live built entirely on setlists voted on by their official fan club members, the Makai.
For those unfamiliar with D.H.C., they represent a fascinating collision of Japanese metal heritage and modern heavy music ambition. Hamada re-emerged after 35 years to form this project with vocalist Shiel Ishadou (a former X-Factor finalist from Okinawa) alongside a rhythm section of accomplished progressive rock musicians. Since their major label debut in 2020 via Sony Music, they’ve dominated domestic metal streaming charts with three full-length albums that blend theatrical storytelling with genuinely heavy musicianship.
The “WORST 10” setlist mixed new material with fan-requested deep cuts and covers. Tracks from their latest album “Seven Great Sins” got plenty of stage time, as did “Vampire’s Daughter.” But the real excitement came from the covers: Seikima II’s “Wasteland New World” and Rainbow’s “Kill The King” proved these musicians could honor their influences while maintaining the band’s distinct identity. During the encore closer “Wuthering Heights,” the interplay between guitarists RENO Faust and Axe KAZUMA, bassist Lilith Ichinose, and drummer KAZAMI Crowley showcased technical precision that left audiences stunned.
