MUCC's Fan-Voted Setlist Chaos at 2026

MUCC's Fan-Voted Setlist Chaos at 2026 "MUCC Day" Special

Imagine a live setlist that jumps from a 1999 debut track to a 2023 split single collaboration, with no musical connective tissue whatsoever. That was the beautiful chaos MUCC delivered on June 9th at Zepp Haneda—a date the band has officially branded as “MUCC Day.”

For the second year running, the Tokyo-based visual kei legends held their interactive “Mukkuri Quest LIVE” series, where fans voted on which songs they wanted to hear, and MUCC performed them in countdown order with absolutely zero regard for thematic coherence. The 2025 edition (“LIVE-序-“) had the band sprinkle in crowd-pleasers to ease the transitions. This year’s “LIVE-破-“ (Breaking) threw that strategy out entirely: 100% fan-voted tracks, ranked by fan demand.

The results were brilliantly unhinged. The top 15 alone spanned from “Shangrila” (2012’s sprawling 6-minute epic) to tracks pulled from 2004’s Kutsuki no Akari to the buoyant R&B-tinged “XYZ.” which landed eight years later. Frontman Tatsuro acknowledged the madness in his MC—especially when discussing the tonal whiplash of bouncing between his 19-year-old self’s “Kokonoka” and his current 40-year-old energy on “XYZ.” Their support drummer even called it “psychopath-level jumping.”

What made this special wasn’t just the setlist chaos, though. The #5 slot went to “Akatsuki,” a 2011 charity single released after the Tōhoku earthquake, with all proceeds donated to relief efforts. Hearing this warm, compassionate track—a rare moment of genuine hope in MUCC’s typically darker catalog—felt like a genuine connection between band and fanbase. That’s what elevates a gimmick concert into something meaningful.

The surprise #1 pick? “JOKER,” a 2016 B-side that drew knowing laughs from Tatsuro (“Seriously, you all?” he grinned). With only two songs overlapping from last year’s setlist, the band proved they’re willing to be governed entirely by their audience’s taste—no safety nets, no editorializing. After eight months away from headline shows, MUCC leaned into pure fan service, and honestly, that’s worth celebrating.
